Tuesday, January 197:00—8:30 PMONLINE EVENTNorthville District Library212 West Cady St, Northville, MI, 48167

Joe Oldenburg, local historian, presents on Cadillac and the Founding of Detroit.

In the late 1600s the fur trade was the most lucrative business in Canada and controlled by France. The best furs were in Michigan so a Frenchman, Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, was sent by Louis XIV, King of France, in 1701 to found Detroit to maintain French control of the fur trade in Michigan. What Louis XIV did not know was Cadillac also planned to enrich himself while still serving the King of France.
